february 9th:
Yuntai Garden
We were told we'd be going to a "park" today.
As you'll see this was no ordinary park. It
was a park of gardens unlike anything I've
ever seen. And again with Chinese New
Year starting in a week, they're preparing for
celebration.
Marisa Mei-Lian Freeman
Amazing!
Simply, they did amazing things with flowers
and shrubbery. Designs, animals, penguins
(Laura?), you name it - they did it. We've said
before and it holds true - many beautiful
parks are here in Guangzhou.
Happy Baby Again
Temperature hit 87 degrees today, but that
didn't stop Marisa from smiling. Nat and the
kids left dad and Marisa behind to go to the
mall. Marisa and I had a great time playing
outside on the slides, etc. Not sure if this is
the first time she's ever been on a slide, but
she certainly shows little fear. She really is
beginning to trust us more.
Well, the idea was a good one
Marisa did not like this posing for the picture idea - not a
real fan of the grass.
I really noticed today that she was very uncertain - if we
left her alone in a room, she started crying. I think she is
realizing that we are the ones who meet her needs.
Marisa cut her 7th tooth today, so this may have been
part of the reason she was more fussy than on prior days.
Orchid?
I don't know my flowers very well, but I think
Natalie said this is an orchid. Beautiful.
They had amazing displays inside and out.
Uncle Mark could have a field day here just
getting ideas for things to do in the yard.
Indoor palm trees probably 4 stories tall.
Danny's Bagel
For those who are GZ food aficionados, you
are familiar with Danny's Bagel. The
restaurant offers Western food in GZ and a
much needed break from the Chinese
cuisine that we would otherwise get at least
two meals a day. This is a chicken
sandwich, but they have pasta, pizza and
other goodies...and they deliver!
Today's video is just a slide show of our pictures. We really didn't have that
full a day and even though we took pictures of the toilets and poopy diapers
as usual, we've really moved beyond sharing those. :-) Tomorrow we have
totally free so the group is going to go to Shamian Island which is a big
shopping district for westerners. Bargaining skills required.
Thank you all for your continued prayers for our family and Marisa. Sleep is at a premium and we're pretty much running on
emotional energy, but we are thankful we're well. So many in our group have gotten some sort of stomach virus since we've been
here and had to sit out for a couple of days. Something else I'd like to ask prayers for: our broader group includes 42 families -
11 of which are in the Guangdong Province with us. Another similar sized group is in the Yunnan Province and we found out
today that 5 of their babies are in the hospital with pneumonia. They will be travelling to Guangzhou tomorrow and be readmitted
here. Please pray for these precious kids and their parents. Commit them to God's hands.
